The village, part of Wülfrath, is situated as the far more well-known Düsseldorf at the Düssel only a few kilometres from the spring.
First recorded in 1182 Düssel was for a long time knight's seat.

Well worth seeing is the former moated castle Düssel (picture left: castle courtyard), the old Catholic church and old decorative half-timbered houses.

Successful are also the new half-timbered houses of the Sparkasse.
