Disrict town Mettmann

Worth visiting is the largely preserved historical Oberstadt (Upper town) of Mettmann. At the market place, around the Lambertus church, the old Bergisch houses are located in rows.

A few hundred metres away from the historical centre of the city you find some contemplative places. Plenty of greenery, old trees and garden benches invite you to linger.

The today's district town dates back to a King's yard named "Medamana", which was recorded in a deed of gift by the King Ludwig IV in the year 904.

The town Mettmann managed to make the topic Neanderthaler to their own, although the remains of a skeleton of a Neanderthal were found in the part belonging to Erkrath. The museum for the Neanderthal attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. In between Mettmann and the Neanderthal Museum the evolution path was located. And a Neandertal hall can also be visited in Mettmann.
